Re: Nature's Spirit Incubator
I've had one for about 4 years now. It works okay, but I didn't love it very much the first year I used it. The plastic walls are not well insulated and it loses heat easily if you keep it in a colder room. The first year I had it running I had it in my basement where the temp was in the low 60's. My temps were extremely variable on each shelf. It does help to fill up the bottom level with water bottles which helps to retain heat and also acts as a baffle for the air from the fan, which I think is too strong. I've had much better luck now that I keep it in my herp room which is always in the mid to high 70's. Another problem that I've run into is with the egg boxes drying out too quickly. Don't put any holes in your egg boxes and make sure they're well sealed. I think the fan is too strong and will dry out the air too quickly. I've lost clutches of eggs before because I didn't seal the egg container properly and they dried out very quickly. I can fit 9 boxes of eggs into mine if I fill the bottom shelf with water bottles, 12 boxes if I don't use the water bottles.

Re: Nature's Spirit Incubator
Thanks everyone :D
Mark, thank you especially to you, that is exactly the kind of thing I need to know! It will be going into my herp room, which is in the basement. The room tends to hold steady right around 75 degrees.
Re: Nature's Spirit Incubator
Thank you as well Mark for the great tip on using water bottles on the bottom. Another quick question for you Mark, where do you think is the best place to put the thermostat probe?
Thanks,

Inside one of the egg containers on one of the middle shelves.
I also like to put the probe for a couple of indoor/outdoor digital thermometers in boxes on other shelves too.
Re: Nature's Spirit Incubator
I never put the probe on mine in an egg chamber, I hung it from the bottom shelf in front of a smallish container which was half filled with water. The air from the fan hit the container to help deflect the air around the whole unit. Please keep in mind this is a smaller unit.
The temps in the incubator only fluctuated by one tenth of a degree. It also helps to keep it in a stable temp room.... mid 70's
Re: Nature's Spirit Incubator
bricks also work well instead of water bottles...they hold the heat and are able to stack with out rolling around...
