Baked? What kind do you use? I'm not exactly sure. I personally don't do anything with it other than put it in the tank. I have one of those coconut husk bricks, so I have to let it expand first in water, and then put it in.

I'd also like some more strategies on managing the humidity. I've had absolutely no luck with either temperature or humidity. I tried larger bowls, larger bowls of the UTH, misting, misting with hot water, covering most of the air vents, and even adding hot wet towels into the tank, but absolutely nothing works. :(

If you have a glass tank, what size? How much is covered, and are you using a ceramic heater??
The larger the tank, the more open the top and things like ceramic heaters all suck out humidity.

It's a plastic container which I thought would hold in the heat/moisture better. It measures 22 long x 16 wide x 11 deep. I've tried everything from 100% open to 95% covered. No effect.
I'm not using a ceramic heater or a heat lamp. I'm totally confounded. :confused:
I tested my thermometer/humidity sensor and it's reading correctly. My humidity has actually gone down following all this. It went from 47% two days ago to 28% today!
Help me!

cover half of the tank with a damp towel and it should go up at least 25 30 %. works for me, give it a shot.

I've had great success with a tupperware container full of damp peat (saphngum) moss sitting under the overhead heating bulb and 3/4 of the screen covered with a t-shirt. Nothing to terribly fancy. The moss needs to be rewetted every 3 or 4 days or it dries out and should be replaced altogether once ever couple of weeks (or however often your climate dictates) so it doesn't mold. Occassionally, like once ever 5 to 7 days I mist the sides. Humidity holds around 60% by doing that. When it comes shed time I'll just add a water bowl over the uth and/or a wet tshirt. Should work like a charm... I hope.

Post a pic of your set up. What do you use to heat it up? What kinda substrate?

It's tougher in the winter when the heat is on, but I have a glass tank and can keep it about 55%. First, I have cork board around 3 sides of the tank - two water bowls, one over the UTH. On the screen, I wet a cotton napkin, lay it across the top and cover that with foil. Then I spray twice a day. When he's getting ready to shed, I make his hide humid with wet paper towel over the warm side. He really likes that and will lay right on top of the towel whenever he's in there. Sounds more complicated than it really is.:)
