Should he be fed in his cage or should I take him out of his cage and let him eat in a seperate box? I just don't want him to mistake my hand for a meal the first time I reach my hand in after his feeding.

That is a HUGE myth. I feed all in my cage and have yet to even be bitten. Also pretty sure the majority here feeds in cage.

Also I think there is a better success rate and less mistaken bites.

I personally think he would be more comfortable in his cage for feeding.

Feeding in the cage, It depends on what type of bedding you use. Make sure it doesnt have any pine or cedar in it. My smaller snakes I take out of the tank. Thats because I have them on aspen and dont want them to get any in them or stuck in mouth. My bigger snakes are kept on newspaper. So no worries there. Since he is new I would feed in the tank untill he gets use to everything. Onces he is feeding like normal once a week. Then if you want to feed out of the cage thats fine if not thats fine too.

Also there are alot of different types of bedding the pet shops will try to sell you. Oh your ball needs this or that. Most of them I havent tried so I cant give advice on them. Im sure someone on here can give you more info on that. Most people on here will tell you they use either newspaper, paper towel, aspen or cypress mulch. Make sure you find out what type of bedding is ok, how this type compares to this type. That kind of thing, you dont want to end up with a bag of bedding you cant use.
