At www.reptilebasics.com as previously suggested you can get a good price on the Ranco. But if a night drop feature is required by you the Johnson Controls A419 is available from the same place prewired with a night drop for a little more $$$$$.

Ranco's are good, reliable thermostats. Saltwater fish guys have been using them for years. They can hadle a lot of power (1500 watts I believe?) and are great to use as backup thermostats as well. They aren't as precise as proportional tstats (I prefer them) but will definitely get the job done. A 2-3 degree swing from time to time is really no big deal at all.

I second that! I have both a Ranco and a Johnson and I am quite happy with them. The only real drawback, as stated, is that they come on and off with a loud (louder in the Ranco) click. At night, when the temps are lower and the stats work more, that click can be kind of annoying. :) It certainly is to my BF.

In retrospect tho, I really wish I could have saved up that money from both stats to buy the Helix or Herpstat. Much better quality and better temp control. Once we get money under control again, I'll be saving up for the Herpstat II so I can have warm and cool side heating on the same stat.
