I have used both. Here's my experience: When I used city water or well water to spritz the cages---I used this for my geckos, too---there was a nice film of minerals left on the side of the glass/plastic when it dried (this stuff was NO fun to clean off, either). When I bought a gallon of distilled water to use, the sides stayed cleaner.

I prefer to use distilled water. It's cheap, it's clean, and I feel better knowing that my critters aren't ingesting that stuff that got stuck to the sides of their cages. But that's me :)

I was wondering...I am on city water as well and when I use my mister on the cage for humidity it gets on the glass, when it drys it leaves white water spots, I assume that this is the chlorine and other additives that are put into the water and was not sure if it was safe to the snake. As you said they are not getting "clean" tap water in the wild, but nor do they get bottled water either....

I just use tap water. Haven't noticed any negitive effects. Still feeding, growing and breeding like clockwork.

I have to agree with ladywhipple02, when i was misting with tap water i would get water spots which do suck. So since i did not like that i went to using bottled water for misting and since i was doing it for that i figured i would do it for drinking as well. Whats a buck a week?
