Didn't they try something like this last year that didn't pass? Or is this another close mended attack?

The people they talk about (API) are doing this in every state they can and have been very successful. They were defeated when they tried it in NC, this was some time ago and it was costly for API

API are using public fear of reptiles, false information and various other tactics to take advantage of the publics dislike and fear for reptiles.
