I knew some guys who got a defanged rattlesnake from some idiots. The snake never did anything but sit in the corner of it's cage. Whenever they picked it up, it was almost like it was dead. To feed it, they had to pre-kill a mouse, and force-feed it.

Re: Eastern Diamondback
that is an amazing picture!
i watched a program on animal planet one time about the big cobra festivals in india and it's pretty common practice to defang them. i don't know how great an idea it is but... it is done.

You've seen the popular video of the baby with the cobra, right?

So, you've talked to someone who "defanges" snakes, have you? Interesting.
I suppose this genius snake "defange" person also told you that it is normal for all "fange"d snakes to shed their "fange"s on a regular basis? Yes, they shed them and they are replaced every few weeks.
To "defange" a snake is akin cutting your hair. It grows back naturally.
Now a venomoid, that is another thing entirely. I suppose your friend who is doing this SURGERY is experienced with antibiotics and painkillers as well as surgical proceedures and is not just some hack looking for attention by cutting snakes open in his garage and removing their venom glands.
There are Veterenarians out there who will do this proceedure but most will not. Is your friend a Vet?
I don't suppose you may just happen to have any pictures of these snakes that have been voided or "defange"d, do you?

heh fange. that was amusing. I thought that too.
also, the vivarium about 10 years ago had a photo article of how to remove glands and ducts in elapids.
but venomoids are usually done poorly and adversely affect the snake.
