Re: Hog Island Boa Questions
I would much rather trust one of my little cousins holding my almost 7' common B.c.i. vs. my 2-3' hog island. Hogs just aren't the best handling snakes compared to most other B.c.i.(even my "dredded nicaraguan"(sp?)) is better behaved than almost any hog I have ever dealt with. Not saying they aren't great snakes but there are always better choices.
As for any info....THEY ARE AWESOME!!! Now that I got one here and settled in, I wouldn't trade her for anything at the moment, I usually have to spend about 10 minutes holding her when she is hissing and gaping till she calms down, no matter how often I handle but I'm more of a look but don't touch guy with most of the boas anyways so a bit of bluffing won't phase me much.
I do tend to keep her and the other dwarf(s) in the cooler rack which rarely gets over 86 on the hot side and they do fine. I feed my female whi is still less than a year old a every 7-10 dayish feeding schedule and a slightly smaller meal than what the other boas feed on. I have females younger than her that are about 2x her overall size but she is by no means skinny or under fed.
Figure I can share a couple pics as well

Re: Hog Island Boa Questions
thanks for that good information, I have no problem with hissing and any biting, and if it takes me a while to calm it down then I'll spend as much time as I have to.
by the way, nice snake.:)
Re: Hog Island Boa Questions
beautiful snake!
i've never had any aggession problems with my hog.. i've had her for about 5-6 months now and the only time shes hissed at me was when i was taking her out of the box she arrived in a putting her in her new home.
well, and there was one time when she struck at me but that was completely my fault.. other than that i take mine out all the time and shes a sweetheart
Re: Hog Island Boa Questions

Re: Hog Island Boa Questions
For Canada, I think that is a little high, but still a fair price. Canada is much more expensive with rarer snakes and reptiles than the USA is. At least as far as I've noticed that is.
Re: Hog Island Boa Questions
You guys all have very nice examples of hog islands.. I've seen a lot of dull ones, but not here!
Re: Hog Island Boa Questions
Hog Island Boas are wonderful handling snakes.
They don't get too enormous and the three I have DO NOT WANT to be put back into their enclosures when I'm through handling them.
There are several variations on their patterns. I tend to like the ones with little to no speckling. They change colors throughout the day which is awesome. My 7 footer changes drastically to an almost white/orange deal when she hits prey items.
Insofar as pricing you may want to check on Kingsnake Classifieds to see what the market is demanding. If you're willing to wait until June there will be tons of new babies for sale.
Possibly some of mine. /crosses fingers =P
I'll dig up some pics of my babies.
Re: Hog Island Boa Questions
I am willing to wait till june, my birthday is coming up so I wanted to get myself a present:D I could get something else though and wait for more babies
nice snakes everyone:)
