Actually, that method works just fine. Using a reliable digital thermostat for the hotspot, and a dimmer plugged into the same thermostat for the other heating pad, dimmed down to the appropriate temperature, maintains a very steady temp. And just in case the dimmer should fail, it's still plugged into the thermostat and will only get so hot.

Just be sure to buy a QUALITY thermostat, not some Zoomed, Alife, Big Apple Herp or ESU crap. Those are the ones that will fail on you and cause a fire or burn your snake. Getting a Johnson Controls, a Ranco, a Helix or one of the Herpstats, and your snake will be much better off.

You could try lamp dimmers($10 at Walmart) to adjust your UTH.It doesnt make adjustments like a thermostat but, coupled with your thermometers you can do some pretty accurate heat maintenance..It just takes a few minutes to get them perfect.

Save yourself money... 66qt tub(15$)... flexwatt(5$)... 2 zilla hides(8$)... accurite thermometer (13$)... and you can go with the repti500 thermostat if youd like ... it does work just has a 5-7 degree fluctuation between when it turns off and turns back on... If you got the extra cash now i say just pick up a better one bc ur gonna have the snake for awhile. If you dont have the loot right now you can go with the repti500 and save for a better one or ask for one for chirstmas/bday/rashashanna haha whatever...If you have the tub in a warm enough room where the ambient temp is above 76 this is the only heat source you should need.

Exactly, we did have a dimmer plugged into our thermostat for our corn snake, and it worked fine. I would never trust a repti-temp for 2 heat sources... Ours fluctuated so much. One week it was spot on, and the next it had dipped 10 degrees! We wrestled with it so much, we ditched it and bought a ranco. (i believe) from reptilebasics.com

personally i just dont mess around i stick with helix!!!:gj:
