Re: Should I buy the Albino or Het???
Also, from the add, it sounds like he needs to sell these, not that he is a breeder. Therefore, best offer could be a LOT less, if you are really interested. Maybe $1,000 for the pair once he's waited around for awhile and has no offers...? Also, is the price just for the snakes, or is he selling the set-up, too?
Re: Should I buy the Albino or Het???
That price does seem high for a het, but the ad also says that the price includes the two glass cages, and the heat pads for both. Depending on how nice his "custom glass cages" are could be making up some of that difference in price. If he's selling the albino for $1000, the het for $500 and adding another $500 for the cages.... I don't know that I would pay that much for all of it, but that may be part of the reason his price is so high.
Re: Should I buy the Albino or Het???
Cool... you are probably right by saying I should really be getting them from a breeder like Adam or someone along those lines.
I REALLY wanna try breeding albinos or pied and albinos are more in my price rang and that add just sounded like an opportunity to start up.
I'll probably stay far away from the het at least. Perhaps I'll see if he will just give me the Albino.
Cheers for the feedback!

This is exactly why the prices are so high. I thought I read on here where someone in Canada just bought a female pastel for around $600.

True, but there is also the fact that our postal system is a joke. (At least in Ontario.) I’d not trust shipping a live animal from the US to Canada – I’ve had way too many bad experiences with imperishable items. I could totally see getting a phone call, two weeks after I was supposed to take delivery, from some flippant boarder agent saying, “Umm… ya, we found the box. It stinks, eh?” I loathe our postal system. *Eye twitch*
There are also the cross-border fees one would incur when buying from the US, and the hassle with customs. If they tie up 2 books I bought through Amazon.com for 2 weeks and then charged me a $40 fee on a $20 book order, I’d shudder to imagine what they’d do with a several-hundred dollar snake.
Fortunately, there are some good breeders in Canada (even local, for me) and I hope to meet them at an upcoming expo. Although the cross-border stuff is a shame, because I really do like some of the breeders I’ve communicated with in the US.

To be honest... the price for both of them isn't that bad really. I see baby albinos for sale for over a grand from breeders.
The problem is that you'll be taking a chance on getting a "for sure" thing...
the other part in that post is that the seller is pushing the vivs as well. Everytime I have bought a snake from a private party, I find half the battle is trying to get them to not include the viv, as ultimately that seems to be where people invest the money and WANT to see that money back.
I have taken the vivs, so that I could get the snake, and then promptly disposed of them... as in never brought them in the house.

Re: Should I buy the Albino or Het???
Well the guy selling the snakes says he got them from Henry Piorun in Mission, B.C. and I hear he is a great breeder in Canada.
He also said Het's don't come with papers or anything like that to prove they are het for a certain percentage of morph... kinda weird, I thought they did!
He also showed me some nice pictures of his two enclosures which look really nice to tell you the truth.
I think I'm gonna get my GTP instead but I really wanted a breeding pair of albinos or pieds and this is my chance. I wonder if I pass it off if I will ever get another chance?!?! Probably!
So 2000 I guess isn't a bad price at all for all that good stuff!
He also said it is 100% Het for Albino...
I'll have to think about it! hummmmmmmmmm
Re: Should I buy the Albino or Het???
ballpython.ca is in Canada and they have het albinos available. I'd send them an email. I bet their female hets are around $500, but I'm totally guessing. At least you'd know you're getting real hets that are healthy.
