Re: i got my husky puppy!! (DUW)
I love using a halti with my dogs. (Even though I have heard that some dogs trainers think of it as the easy way out and your not really training your dog...???) But I do agree with not using a harness. They are only good, IMO, if you are going to train your dog to do some pulling later on...
Very cute puppy though!!! :) Makes me want another puppy too!!
Re: i got my husky puppy!! (DUW)
He is BEAUTIFUL!!! And yes, everyone is right- your going to have to do alot of trianing. But as long as he knows who the "dominant" one is, training wont be too hard for you. Congrats, and good luck!!!

Very cute. Don't forget the grooming training too. Brushing now, makes it easier later!
Red? Very nice. I like reds.

I'd agree on the harness thing with Huskies. Since their instinct is to pull, harnesses tend to just trigger that so aren't always a good choice for walking control. A Halti style or even a classic training collar might be your better choice. When the pup is a bit bigger though a proper pulling harness where he can pull a cart/small sled for you is a great idea. These dogs love to pull so it fulfills that need. Watch the pup for climbing fences and don't let him off lead where you can't get him back. Huskies (and all northern breeds) tend to be runners and are hard to confine to any yard as they are very agile climbers. They are also "talkers" LOL.
We had a lab/husky mix years ago. Shad loved to wear her pulling harness and give the kids sled rides, helped us haul wood at the cottage, etc. Basically anything that allowed her to work under harness.
Huskies also have a pretty sharp prey drive so watch him for chasing cats and for mouthing/heel nipping a lot so he doesn't end up a problem as he matures.
Learning to stand quietly for grooming is a huge deal with these sorts of dogs. Even our part-Husky blew out her coat like you wouldn't believe every year and it would have been hell to deal with if she wasn't good about standing quietly while we dealt with all that undercoat.
Lovely pup!

Oh man, that is the coolest lil guy I've seen!
Man I want one sooo bad tooo!
I'm getting a house soooon I hope... so then I can get me a dog. I was gonna go huskey but they are a ton of work. But now that your showing us pictures I might just change my mind and do all that work just for the awesomeness of the huskeys! Lab would be nice too... but Huskeys are just crazy!
Re: i got my husky puppy!! (DUW)
I completely third the harness comment. I tried my husky on a harness for a while, and if anything it encourages them to pull rather than preventing it. Now I use just a collar and leash (which took a lot of training to keep her walking NEXT to me and not pulling me like I'm a sled!).
SO CUTE! Congrats!
Re: i got my husky puppy!! (DUW)
I absolutely adore huskies....when they belong to someone else! :D Beautiful puppy you got there! He'll grow into a stunning dog!
Re: i got my husky puppy!! (DUW)
Hey man... when did you steal my cat?!
O_O
Wait hold on... Peeker is on my bed. Okay so I think our cats are twins.....
PS. Your puppy is beautiful! Beware you are going to see A LOT of hair in the up coming years. Go out and get a good brush and a dog grooming rake. A grooming rake will be your new best friend when it comes to getting all of that under coat out!!! I personally LOVE grooming huskies at my job. My coworkers who are groomers also think I'm nuts.

I was always amazed at the undercoat Shad had. She actually was likely only about 1/4 Husky. We got her up in the Canadian Yukon where many sled dog racers will breed a little Lab into their pure Huskies to calm them down somewhat. The pups that come out too much Lab are often just given away.
Even with only that touch of Husky in her, Shad loved to pull and was awful to train on lead. A Halti saved my sanity and my shoulders with her. She had a Lab coat but had the Husky undercoat and it was absolutely amazing how much grey fur we got out of her each spring. I swear I could have created a lovely small fuzzy grey dog out of it LOL
