Re: Surgery today..
I got my 4 wisdom teeth extracted a few years ago. They put me under so it wasn't so bad. For the next week or so, I could feel EVERY muscle in my face (they felt really tight for awhile)--I never fully appreciated how many muscles work together in my head to facilitate chewing, smiling, talking...
The worst part for me was not being able to spit or brush my teeth that first day... My mouth tasted/smelled like rancid meat (thanks to all that blood) and in order to get the saliva/blood out of my mouth, I had to spend time leaning over the sink with my mouth open and letting it ooze out on it own. Yeah, gross. :)
That said, I wish you a speedy, painless recovery!

Re: Surgery today..
For some reason, I had a really bad experience. Maybe my mind just amplifies it because of the drugs, but dang, it seemed like the longest week of my life. LOL.
I think the worst part was attempting the keep the sockets cleaned out... they gave me this little syringe and I had to squirt water into the sockets to clean out any food or whatever... ugh, it hurt!
And by the time my gums stopped hurting, my face starting feeling weird... like itchy. My teeth were re-adjusting to having more room. It was irritating because I couldn't scratch anything! LOL.

I had the weird little syringe too and I got dry socket anyway. I was a smoker at the time but I hadn't smoked. Yay mashed potatoes for a week. It was also one of the longest weeks of my life. And Im really glad its over!

Re: Surgery today..
I hope you get better soon!
Reading all of the stories really makes me appreciate how lucky I was with my wisdom teeth extraction! I had three wisdom teeth removed. All three were impacted and coming in sideways so they had to knock me out to remove them. I only had three though, there was no fourth which I thought was funny (and also helped save a bit of money too!).
I remember laying in the chair and the next thing I remember was sitting in the car and Sean was driving me to get my medication and then I was sitting on our couch at home.
I took a couple of pain pills and then slept almost the whole day and woke up early evening. When I woke up, I felt fine and took another pain pill and was starving! We went to eat Waffle House and I had a waffle and some scrambled eggs. I think I might have taken 4 or 5 pain pills at the most throughout the whole ordeal and then a few Tylenols after that.
I was up and working the next day!
I was really worried that I woudl have a tough time with the surgery but everything went amazingly easily. I think it really pays to get a VERY good doctor. The doctor that removed my wisdom teeth is supposed to be the best in the state and I would definitely vouch for him after my experience LOL!
Anyways, hope you have a speedy recovery!!
