aw i'm so sorry. i wonder if it was the antibiotics that had something to do with his not being able to pull through--the dose for a gecko that small would be so little it would be quite easy to overdose him. in any case, i'm glad that at least the last part of his life was filled with love. :(

If you give antibiotics to a dehydrated animal, it's just going to shut their kidneys down and cause everything to start failing. Even if you did get him hydrated, his kidneys and other organs may have been too far gone to sustain life. I think the liver can function fine until about 85% of it has failed, then you start seeing the clinical signs.

Poor little man. At least he got a comfortable, cool home where he could relax for the remainder of his days. You did all you could and at least he could pass away stress free and with a full tummy.

    Thank you guys..

I did talk to my vet this morning. She said the same thing. She said the best thing that they could have done was to correct their husbandry, treat the effected area with betadine solution and get him healthy. Then start a antibiotic treatment if needed. She said most mild cases of mouth rot can be treated just by correct husbandry and a solution such as betadine or peroxide.

I am so frustrated, makes me wonder what they are going to do with the sick geckos they had on display? I want to call them and tell them but I have a feeling it isn't going to do any good. Especially since they take their animals to a vet that only does dogs and cats. If there were only a way to save them all :(
