We got our male normal BP from a Petco. They had care sheets for all the animals in a rack at the end of the reptile area. I think my husband found the one on BP's himself and we took it with us. The employee who assisted us was helpful with information (she has a BP, too). We also got a book, and joined here. This is by far the best source of information of course. But the only complaint we would really have about Petco is having 5 - 6 BP's in one tank (15 - 20 gal, I think). They were all 1 1/2 to 2 feet in size.

My petco is just as bad i went in the other day and felt sorry for the bp. They had 4 in a 10 gallon tank with temp on both side sitting around 100 and no humidty. One of then look so awful if i had the money i would have bought them.

reason they house so many in a tank is because its temporary housing and people seem to forget that yea i feel bad that we do it, but you have to remeber petstores thrive on sellling animals and animal supplies to, i mean look at the hamsters too they are supposed to be solitary and only house one by itself.
and also if y9ou have a bunch of animals that you are selling you arent gonna put one snake per cage or one hamster per cage you would run out of room for all your other animals.

not saying its right but stating the facts of how a petstore thinks

Yeah but there are other things they could handle better besides housing em all together. I doubt the humidity and temps are kept where they are needed, esp during shedding. Thats why even though I haven't had many problems with the girl I bought there, I will def buy from a breeder when I add to my collection.

i havent had an problem wth shedding bps but i would suggest going to a breeder anyway since they say that we get cbb bps most of them seem to be wc for the fact that they always come in with ticks and mites and it takes me a month or so to get rid of them in order to sell the bps i am the reptile specialist at my petco.

a pet store is just that: a store. their main concern is how well they do financially. if business is good then nothing is wrong. a couple dead animals are just write offs. private breeders are the way to go for quality healthy animals.

i work in a reptile department in a pet store and i always recommend breeders and reptile shows. who cares about 1% commission!

You have got to be kidding me. You suspect the BP's at your Petco are wild caught? We learned about all those sorts of issues AFTER we got our BP from a Petco. So we later asked and they said they were bred in captivity. Our snake visited the vet and got a clean bill of health. But we didn't do a fecal. Should we?
