Re: heads up to anyone who has purchased a snake from ed clark...
i know she is stressed right now with the meds every day too--the treatment for the coccidia is once per day every day for 7 days. poor girl doesn't like it one bit and i can't blame her--the albon is a sticky mess. :(

at the time of the trade he said that the snakes were captive bred 2005 females and stated "all my stuff is as clean as you will find." (i am copying that quote directly from an old e-mail about the transaction.)
i suspect that these females were likely actually from a group of ch/farm hatched or imported bps that he purchased wholesale to resell, since at the time he was selling a lot of females that were about the same size and age as these girls.
i weighed bree on friday and she weighs 435 grams. that is what the girls that i hatched in september of 2006 weigh. hopefully once she is finished with her course of medication her good eating habits will actually put some weight on her.
435 for an 05 female...yep I'd be worried to Em. I hope you kept whatever emails, etc. you have on this trade as well as the copy of your vet's findings. This is just another reason that we all need to get things in writing as much as possible I guess. What a mess honey.
Well here's our Ed story if it gives you another indicator of what may be going on with this guy. You know Danu, the WC adult female that we got as part of deal with Andrew H. Her history (from Andrew) is that she was imported and Ed "got a clutch of eggs out of her", she never ate (or never ate well) and ended up in Andrew's collection. He told me about her, that she wasn't eating or doing well and we offered to take her and do what we could.
She's now eating, not great yet but doing better, in FULL quarantine and will be tested shortly (she's not passed any feces yet). How do you end up with an adult female at 866 freaking grams if she was ever big enough to have been bred in the first place????? I don't have exact weights or dates she came into both Ed's and Andrew's hands but I highly doubt she was ever in the shape to have been bred (unless she came in gravid perhaps?) I'll let you know how her fecals come out Em but I'm worried I can tell you that after these results with snakes you got from the same source. :(
Re: heads up to anyone who has purchased a snake from ed clark...
luckily i keep all my e-mails so i still have everything. it had totally slipped my mind that these girls were 2005s--i think based on their size i was just thinking that they were 06s but then when i looked back at the e-mails i saw that ed had said they were 05s and i totally freaked out. bree is the smaller of the three by a little, but i weighed one of the other girls last night and she is only 530 grams. not good!
best of luck with your girl joanna, and i hope your fecals all come out clear!

I am not defending Ed here, but a 1500g snake can get down to 866g after laying her eggs. Especially if she was a gravid WC that did not start eating right after laying.
Re: heads up to anyone who has purchased a snake from ed clark...
I am getting mine from him checked this week she's a pig but still I'd feel safer. Shes an 06 and is 1100 so I think I'm safe but better safe than sorry.
Re: heads up to anyone who has purchased a snake from ed clark...
John, I'm not arguing the point that any female loses after laying, I'm not experienced enough with breeding to do so. However, I find it very sad that a female would have had to lose at minimum half her body weight to end up in the condition that Danu came to us in. At what point should have a responsible keeper/breeder have been taking a more pro-active stance with this snake?
We've only had her since June 13, 2007. We had her first meal into her on August 14, 2007. I don't perform miracles or feed "special" rats so it's a bit odd to me that this snake got this bad under the care of someone with Ed's supposed level of experience when I could get her to eat in 8 weeks of care in our home.

Let's not forget the mite infested BP's Shelby bought from Ed. That was a nasty time with him ...
