i don't have alot expierences with RI, a culture seems like a good idea! what could it hurt?

that way the vet can match up the best meds...

Update: At the end of the AB he was doing WAY better. He went from having a gurgling sound and labored breathing to only a slight popping sound. That told me the new AB must have been working, but he needed more.

I called the vet. They let me pick up 5 more injections. He's had one injection of the 2nd round of that AB on Sunday. No doses were skipped between rounds of AB's. Now, today I look in his tub and he's once again holding his head up and has bubbles coming from his mouth.

We did change him from an aquarium to a tub last week so the temp and humidity would be more stable. He didn't seem to stress over that at all.

Another thing that happened was that he decided to shed on Friday. It was a problem shed. I don't understand why because his humidity has never been an issue. It was always around 55% until he had blue eyes, then we bumped it to about 70-75%.

I'm sure he expelled a lot of energy through that shed. Is it possible that that could have caused a set-back in his getting better?

I really thought we were out of the woods, now this!

ask you vet to give your snake a lungwash to get all the mucus outta your snakes throat.

i have only dealt with Ri and my vet preformed a lungwash on my snakes, and with the mucus from the wash preformed a culture/sensitivity and then gave me baytril and flagyl.....

A culture wouldn't help at this point. He's been on AB's for too long. Plus, the AB's were working. He was getting better.

I called the vet today and the actual exotic tech called me back. She was out sick when I picked up the other syringes. She said that I was given a smaller dose for some reason. I am picking up the larger dose tomorrow morning.

The higher dose I was giving him(until I ran out) had him almost well. I think the set-back is due to the lower dosage of the AB.

The vet tech said the next step if this doesn't work is to take blood and check for a virus. She told me the virus name, but I didn't write it down and don't remember what it was. I'll ask her about it when I go tomorrow.

One thing is for sure...if I ever have another snake with an RI I will get a culture done before they put it on AB's.

I don't have any experience with this, but I just wanted to say I hope your snake gets all the way well soon!

the culture would actually reveal any viruses, but you vet knows what best right.

so best of luck to ya and post pics once your snake is better
