Re: Iris sweater rack from RBI
No BP's are not illegal in NY City as far as I can tell from reading of the final bill. Burmese pythons, reticulated pythons, etc. are. Here is a link regarding this bill with a pdf on the final bill. Unless I'm reading it wrong, I cannot see p. regius mentioned anywhere on this particular law. According this this link a Tom Hudak was instrumental in keeping ball pythons off the list even when the lawmakers kept trying to include them.

That's agreeing with the last post. BP's are NOT illegal in NYC. Also, I live outside the city, in one of the three burroughs, so I'm sure the same rules apply.
Re: Iris sweater rack from RBI
Won't all 5 boroughs be considered "the City"....

Jo, that link you quoted is NY State. NYC makes their own laws.
BPs are most definitely illegal in NYC. This includes all 5 boroughs (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens and Staten Island)

It is definitely stupid that they include all snakes in the Pythonidae family and Boidae family but what can you do?
Re: Iris sweater rack from RBI
That can't be right, because Petco sells ball pythons in the middle of NY city, and so does my local petland store. That must be an interpretation.
Also I know there are some local NY'ers on this forum as well, and we discussed how it was legal as well. I do see where you say all Python stuff, but if they're in the chain stores... it must something else.

When is the last time you saw a Ball Python in a store in NYC? I lived in the city for years and in fact lived there when the ban went into effect. I have not seen one since.
I just called the Union Square Petco and was told that NO Petco sells them in NYC due to the laws.
You'll get the same answer from Petland (although they close at 9pm so I couldn't get any on the phone)
Re: Iris sweater rack from RBI
Does that include Long Island as well?

No. Long Island is governed by the rules of NY State. Only the 5 boroughs are bound by the laws in the pdf I linked.

Wow thanks Jamie. I never wanted to live in NYC but now I surely won't. It's amazing that a single city can just basically over-ride it's own state laws isn't it.

Keep in mind, that single city is almost half the population of the entire state. I am pretty sure that this is the only state of this size where a single city even comes close to that high of a percentage of the total population. I do understand the ban of large constrictors in NYC. NYC is a huge metropolitan area where the majority of people live in apartment buildings. I think there are definitely some safety concerns that don't apply to rural areas. Unfortunately the lawmakers weren't smart enough or didn't care enough to make distinctions within the Pythonidae and Boidae families.
