LOL my husband would go live in a tent in the yard if I did that!

Anyways, Ashley leave the male in with the female until she appears preggers. He won't hurt her and they develop a vaginal plug after a successful mating so he can't "bother" them anymore. I've had females hide a pregnancy from me and deliver while still in with the male and he was fine with the pinks. Male rats rarely if ever kill the young and often can and will protect and parent them. The only problem with the male still being in with her when she delivers is that there is a chance he will immediately re-mate her though most females will rebuff his advances. The few times I've had this sort of surprise delivery in the mating bins the females have never come up pregnant immediately. Though because I check the rats daily it's usually only a matters of hours before I've seen she's birthed and moved her and the pinks into a maternity tank.
