Re: my dog nursing my kitten?
Our old female cat Pusster Kitty nursed off our female Lab, Shadow, when we first got them both. Shad was a young adult dog but had never been bred. She'd lay for hours letting that little kitten try to get milk. Puss had been weaned appropriately but I think just wanted to see if anything was being offered. We did have to break them of it as Puss would scratch up Shad's belly quite a bit with her claws. They did bond closely and were the best of buddies until Shadow's passing at age 11 (Puss lived on to age 18).
I did have to toss out my favorite housecoat as Puss would constantly try to nurse on a corner of it too. Something about the texture always made her want to nurse even into adulthood.

I believe it. We got Inky when he was 8 yrs.old from the SPCA. He had been IDed as belonging to people after being picked up as a stray, and his former owners said to let him go up for adoption. :( He is around 12 years of age now.

Wow that's really cute.. your doggie is very tolerant!
My cats both knead (make biscuits we always call it..) but I've never seen them try to nurse on anything.

We got two half Bengal kittens a few weeks ago. They were only 6 weeks old - really too early to leave Mum but because Mum was having medical problems we got the kittens. Our Tomcat, Chico took it upon himself to play surrogate Mum.
Here's a little video clip of one of the kittens trying to nurse from Chico.

Here's surrogate "Mum" with the kittens. They still curl up together. The kittens are 3 months old now and have had all their shots. Their Mum has also recovered. The mother cat belongs to one of my colleagues and she is a pedigree Snow Bengal. Unfortunately she had an affair with the local Tom cat (he snuck in an open window) and four gorgeous kittens were the result.

These pics were taken the first week we got them so they've grown a lot since then.
