Yea may seem crazy, but what else can you do with No Power?

please bite your tounge.. no one ever gets used to hurricanes, it is mahem and chaos just as it is anywhere else. ive lived here all my life and were below the lake, right in the "cone of death" damage is NOT LOW it never has been and never will be.. as for safety, you obviously werent here even during wilma which was our most recent and direct hit. we were out of power, out of fuel for more than a week here, and we got lucky. our grocery stores didnt have generators and we had NO FOOD left on the shelves and all the perishable foods, perished. so no you couldnt be more wrong. any hurricane (or even tropical storm) is devestating for ANYONE, florida is a low lying state with no hills or mountains to keep dry. there were streets under water for almost a month, our parks JUST OPENED recently. we had street lights, power lights, exc everywhere.. so again no one is "Safe". im sorry to get pushy but your talking about MY HOME STATE AND TOWN and you couldnt be MORE WRONG.as for whatelse is there to do with no power.. for most of us it can be the difference between life and death and IVE BEEN THERE. there is nothing to enjoy about hurricanes, and rollerblading in the streets?! with all the debris and water, yeah right. and wilma was better than andrew, which i went through too. the only thing we can do is prepare and do the best we can with the resources we have.. we do have a generator, and had it for wilma and it didnt make a lick of a difference for us.

im not sure where you live but hurricanes are a real threat to us where we live, we are within miles of several beaches, again in south florida.. in the cone of death. its no joke and nothing to be taken lightly.. i look forward to november when we can breathe again!

Well that is south florida...central (orlando) and north(tallahassee) isnt bad at all...i have lived here for at least 10years and experienced it all...Andrew...the three in one year...8 simultaneous tornadoes in one night...Orlando...but i am a firm believer of a couple things...everything happens for a reason...and life is full of surprises, make the best of them.

Sorry to offend you, but I enjoy every thing nature throws at me...if i die in my enjoyment at least I will die happy.

but this is all coming from a guy who skydives...street races...paintballs...hunts...and owns snakes :P

I love life! Please forgive me if I sound ignorant, but at 20years old and gone to 22 funerals... (3 this summer) life holds no promises.

I don't think it's a matter of 'offending'... I think it is more a matter of the lack of respect shown to those who do live in Southern Florida and have lost friends and family members because of storms like this.

Yes, *you* may be content to have fun with whatever is thrown at you, but you also have to respect the fact that there are people out there who are and have been effected by these types of storms in dangerously life threatening ways, and who have lost loved ones and close friends to them.

Natural disasters are never a joking matter... That's why they're called 'disasters'...

I wish the best to everyone who will be affected by Dean, and to their families and friends as well - be safe everyone.

andrew up there wasnt bad at all.. we got hit horrible down here. everything happens for a reason sure, but watching my friend get killed thanks to a falling tree.. sure didnt seem like a reason at the time. but yes, everythign happens for a reason but its not somethign to take lightly. life being full of surprises, im sure the people in LA are singing a different tune.. make the best of them fine but dont make it out to everyone else here, across the seas and everythign else that hurricanes are "fun" and no big deal because they arent fun and are a huge deal. it is offensive to see someone write like you did.. one big storm and you will be changed forever, i assure you. go ahead and enjoy those "storms" you get up there.. there is nothing more petrifing (to me) than living here.. but take the bad with the good. paradise.. for 6-7mos of the year  good luck and best wishes this hurricane season. i hope you dont get hit as much as i hope we dont. thanks for the apology

    thank you for your compassion.

i hope everyone stays safe and healthy, no matter where you live and what disaster lies close. in an instant life is changed forever, i hope no one has to ever experience what the people in LA had to, all thanks to a "fun" storm.

nice edit. you do what you want to with your life, reckless or not. ive done some pretty dangerous things in my time and looking back id smack myself for it. i too love life and when my children were born i learned what life was all about. watching my friends die thanks to mother nature and otherwise was an eye opener. i know how fragile life is, and your right, life holds no promises, i live my life to the fullest while doing what i have to in order to keep my family safe. im 23 and know what its like to be 20 too... i was a mother by then, you did sound ignorant, going to 22 funerals means nothing. im sure everyone here has experienced heart ache and loss. i hope someday you can understand where im coming from, while not having to experience what i have. best of luck to you and please use better disgression when posting.. it really stings some people.

I live in mid-north florida, and I don't joke about hurricanes either. If you'd gone down and helped out those people affected, you'd be quite sobered by it. Seeing a family that has lost their home, and family members, and still has to try to salvage out of the collapsed rubble that used to be their home... that makes it no fun. Especially when you've got to bury thier puppy. It haunts me.
I am pretty nonchalant about hurricanes, I prepare and do my best. But I won't ever joke about them.
When one gets near and passes, you get great waves, and a bit of wind, but it's not a big deal. Just try to remember that there's a lot of folks really badly affected by them with bad memories of each hit.
I'm really glad to hear that you have a great attitude too, too many folks won't enjoy life. Just try to look at the bigger picture before you joke.
    Cheers!

I don't personally think that anyone should joke about natural disasters either. Living on the Southeastern VA coast, the hurricanes that we get here aren't as bad as they can be in FL, I think H. Isabelle has probably been the worst that we have had in awhile, but even then we had people that lost their lives as well as many many people that had to suffer for weeks with no power, no water..... Many people whos homes were destroyed. Many people couldn't even really leave their houses due to flooding and fallen trees. Chesapeake and the surrounding cities looked like a disaster area for quite awhile afterwards. Making the best out of a situation and having fun in life is one thing, but making jokes about something that many other people suffer from is quite another. I am with Ashley B, I feel much better when Nov. rolls around, and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Ashley, as well as everyone else, whether on this forum or not, who are within risk of any hurricane to come this season or any other natural disaster.
