Re: New, not eating, problem dumeril boa!
just thought i should update on my baby dums. they both have eaten every single week since the non eater started eating and they are on to small rats. they are so weird though. one just politely takes the food from my hand and the other rubs her nose on the nose of the rat while i hold it for her and then slowly opens her mouth and expects me to hold the rat for her until shes a good way done swallowing. i guess they have been traumatized by the pet store and spoiled by me so that may explain it!;)

if anyone knows of a good dumerils boa website or caresheet or even a dumerils boa book then please fill me in on that! thanks!

I am glad they are both eating well for you. Congrats

Those are some beautiful pics of your lil guy... man... I need a new camera. :)

I never did find much information on them on the web. I just keep the temps and things like I do for my BPs and it all seems well. I do use a lot more substrate so that he can burrow into it but thats about the only difference. You are so lucky that yours will eat from your hand... Mine likes his food on a plate and the room has to be completely dark before he will even bother with it. So basically he eats em cold.. ick. :O

I have read somewhere in my travels that a lot of the loss in interest in the dumeril's results from a lot of inbreeding and genetic defects that have come about because of it. Plus you can't get them from Madagascar anymore as they are an endangered species. Who knows. I love the dumeril's and think they are beautiful snakes, but I have to admit mine has been a little more frustrating than my BP's that eat anything and everything (practically) with out even looking at it twice. Granted we haven't had him that long so we are still working out the kinks.

Oh, we all love to spoil our snakes. That sounds very sweet that you can hand feed them. And what great pictures! Congrats on the eating - probably they feel comfortable with you.

I'm glad they're doing well for you. Once they're established feeders they seem to eat everything in sight.
