Of course now that I want to find pine cones I can't find any around.

Any other ideas for home made toys?

How about golf balls or something like that?

If you have a "Dollar Tree" store nearby, they are a great place for rat toys and cage accessories.

best item by far, they have various size white wire "drawer organizers" that make excellent add on shelves and levels if your rats are in a wire cage. My rats all sleep in them, and they are an easy way to add much more floor space to a wire cage.

For hammocks, they sell 30x30 fleece "baby blankets" that can be cut up and hung with cheap wire shower hooks.

There are all kinds of different size plastic tubs, buckets and bins that can make igloos and be hung as sleeping spots.

I bought a 4 pack of hard plastic ash trays for $1 that make good treat bowls

They sell whiffle-type golf balls , $1 per dozen.

Other essential cage furniture, 3" or 4" diameter PVC T and Y connectors suspended from cage ceilings and shelves as well as left on the ground. These are also favorite sleeping spots. Menards has some thinner PVC 4" diameter pieces that are alot cheaper, like $2 or $3 each.

It's a good idea to drill many drainage holes on the top and bottom of any PVC pieces, or they will end up with puddles in them.

Shipping is always a pain, but you can go on their website and find local dealers that sell them. https://www.mazuri.com/Home.asp?Products=2&Opening=4
