Re: Why do you breed..?
I find it extremely fascinating. I was hooked from the first time I saw a Pied, and now like most everyone else when I see something new I think I have got to have one of those. This has been great for my blood preassure, well at least until about day 55 before eggs hatch ;), and it gives me something in common with my teenage daughter.
Sure I would like to make some money at some point, at least enough to cover what I have spent. But if I don't, so be it. I just wish my wife felt the same way ...

I'm totally hooked on the animals. Watching your first morphs hatch has got to be one of the most exhilarating thing I've experienced. I love how long it takes and every step in the process.
I sell ball pythons as a business because it is my way of sharing the dream with others as well as justifying my obsession to my family... :p

Re: Why do you breed..?
BP's rock and I am hopelessly addicted! What could be cooler than producing your own designer morphs?

I just love the genetics part of it, what can be more exilarating then anticipating a clutch in which you have no idea what they will look like! :D

Re: Why do you breed..?
I haven't bred yet, but I intend to. I'm hoping to have my first successful breeding this year.
I had always wanted a snake. I got my first bp 5-6 years ago and when I was shopping around and trying to figure out what species of snake to acquire (corns, kings, bps, etc.) I settled on a bp because of its size, temprament, etc. I stumbled across the pastels/pieds, etc. and thought the genetic variations were astounding. I've always wanted to get into the breeding aspect of it, it's my own "mad scientist" syndrome. I think it's fascinating.
I didn't want to jump right into breeding, I wanted to keep a snake, get familiar with it, enjoy one as a pet, and get more knowledgeable before I started a project. In the last two years things have really come together and I now have space/money/time to start breeding. I'm really excited about it. My first clutch will probably be normalxnormal, and seeing all the egg cams and pipping pictures makes me feel like the kid that's not in the super special secret club! I want the experience of hatching my own babies, and I'm very excited to be at this point and I can't wait!!!! I think it will be incredibly rewarding.
Eventually, I'd like to be able to sell some of the offspring so that in the long term my the hobby helps support itself and I can purchase other morphs. I get enjoyment out each and every one of my snakes, they all have particular quirks, and I love that about them.
Long term, I'm looking forward to being the 70 year old snake lady in the neighborhood.

Re: Why do you breed..?
Because no one (with the exception of the mother) in my family wants me to do this (90% hate snakes). And it ticks em off, and that makes me grin.
And because I love the snakes, didn't even know about morphs before my first breeding attempts.
