A second voice for using a glue gun - it is safer than tape, stronger but still removable without much hastle. A glue gun and some sticks cost me less than ten pounds too.

I don't really like using tape in reptile enclosures, too risky. Since you already have a thermostat plugged in and set up, then the temperature isn't actually fluctuating, the thermometer probe is moving. If the temp was fluctuating then the tstat would not be doing it's job.

You can use removable ticky tack, teachers use it to tack things to walls. It's not sticky enough to stick to the snake, but it will hold the probe in place for awhile. You can pick it up in most office supply store, and it's cheap. One pack should last for at least three months, at only two bucks.

The tape I use and recommend is low stick blue tape. I have used it on very delicate surfaces and snake enclosures for many many years, only sticks to very smooth surfaces(bottom of enclosures). Will not stick to snakes and is kept hidden under newspaper which in turn is held down by hides.
