Re: names..
All the ball pythons carry either irish celtic or scots gaelic names (Mike's family background is Irish/Italian, I'm Scots/Ukrainian lol). So basically we pick names that are impossible to spell and not much easier to say. :) We do try to choose names that reflect something in the snake's look, temperment or even something that describes the snake's origins (Saoirse for instance means wild and free to honor her wild caught background). The only ball python that wasn't named like this is Mikey's little male BP...Mikey says that snake is his "buddy" so Buddy it was.
The milksnake Emi was named by our daughter who owns her...it's Chinese and means "beauty". Our son's BCI came with the name Severus from Harry Potter and Luke liked it so much he kept it.

Re: names..
all the critters? let's see...
spencer, a cat- there wouldn't be a student named spencer. (my mom's a teacher)
sophie, a cat- out of a children's book- the BFG!! and it wouldn't be a student's name (she ended up having a student named sophie of course)
madeline, a cat- the madeline books.
calvin, a cat- because we got him as a kitten, and kittens are mischeivious- just like calvin in calvin and hobbs- my dad's nickname in college was hobbs too
braxton, a dog- there wouldn't be a student named braxton... that happens a lot with our pets...
shaina, a dog- there wouldn't be a student in my mom's class named that
lucy, a dog (1)- came named
lucie, a dog (2)- also came named- creepy eh? we changed the spelling for less confusion at the vet
harry, a rat- because of harry potter duh!
georgia, a rat- my brother named it after the person he got it from
tucker, a rat- liked it after going through the alphabet
cleo(patra), a ball python- i love egypt, and it seemed very appropriate

Re: names..
Okay they'll be a spelling and pronunciation test later....LOL....their names and the meanings behind them....
The female ball pythons:
Brannagh - dark beauty (and she is dark and beautiful)
Orlah - golden princess (for her lovely golden personality)
Saoirse - freedom and liberty (got it wrong in the previous post lol)
Danu - celtic goddess of fertility (we sure hope she is that)
Kyna - love and affection (because she's just a big love of a snake)
Rionnach - queenlike (and boy is she!)
Morag - the great one (her blushing is beyond great to me)
Cara - friend (named to honor Robin who gifted her to me)
Ailish - celtic form of Elizabeth (named after one of my daughters)
Doireann - temptetous weather (for her "big" personality lol)
Muirne - high spirited (she hated me as a hatchling!)
Darra - small great one (she's tiny but mighty)
Kennis - beautiful (tiny and so very pretty)
Fianna - warrioress (she's the baby that bit Mike LOL)
Niamh - radiance (she just radiates her beauty)
The male ball pythons:
Malachi - my angel (he is simply my angel)
Riordan - royal poet (we hope he is so poetic he charms the ladies LOL)
Buddy - named by Mikey because he's his "buddy"
There you go! :)

Re: names..
Sweet names, Joanna. I love the celtic/gaelic ones most since that's half of my background (Scotch/Welsh and German/Norwegian) :)

Re: names..
Thanks! I love them too, though personally I'd go with the more common english spellings but my Mike insists we use the "proper" spelling for their names! Just means that for about two weeks I have a sticky up to remind me how to both spell and say any new ball python's name when we get them in. :) I am still struggling with Niamh's name which is apparently pronounced "nee-eve"...good lord...darn celts!

Re: names..
Chase - Black labrador. As soon as we saw him, he was hyperactive and to this day it still fits him perfectly.
Oscar - Bassett Hound. My husband has had him 6 years way before he met me and he just thought it was a cool name.
Mallie - cat. She was already named when we rescued her and we liked the name anyway so why change it!
Athena - BP. Named after a godess cant be a bad thing? Plus i used to work for a place called Athena which is where i made friends with the people who are still my best friends today, so it reminds me of back home. (I'm from england but now live in Arizona)
Coby - tortoise. I named him after the singer in my fave band, plus i just love the name.
Shaddix, Nash, Maynard, Dax and Donnie are the random fish in our house right now, named after musicians, actors or sport stars! =)

Re: names..
I actually ask my regular chat room for names beginning with a certain letter. Most all my snakes have people names, but only people names that are not my friends or family(normally).
I organized them so that the pastels all have names starting with "p" like Peter and Pauline. The large grown females I purchased all have names starting with "G" because I opened the box and immediately found out I'd been "gyped" (No offense ot any Romani - I'm only using it int he modern sense) and named the first one Gyp for her fancy curliques. The others got G names to match.
I guess it's not as inventive, but it works for me. All the snakes that I don't have for sale(i.e. hatchlings) get named.
The one cornsnake is named Tiamot, after the goddess of chaos, since she's good at causing it.

Re: names..
Let's see... Most names just come to us.
Zoey/dog-My dad wanted to call her sasha, but for some reason my mom couldn't stop calling her Zoey, so it just stuck
Puma/cat-A stray cat I nicknamed because of her huge size. It turns out she was so big because she was pregnant. After she had her kittens, she brought them to us.
Butterscotch/Puma's kitten-She was orange. It was more of a nickname, but it never changed.
Busterella/Puma's other kitten-Well, we thought she was a he and he was feisty, but "he" got pregnant so we just changed the ending, but we still call her Buster for short.
Marbles/Buster's kitten-Just came to me. Though I should of named him blackbeard because he has a black face with a white mouth and neck, except for his black chin.
Ringlette/Buster's kitten-he is a grey tabby cat with a white ring going around his neck.
Lil' Girl/Buster's kitten-We never came up with a true name for her, but I don't think we'll ever try either. :)
Shadow/Buster's adoptive kitten-We have no idea where this kitten came from, but Buster just took him in. He's so named because he's really shy, and never comes out of the shadows.
Cinnamon/Guinea pig-She was brown... I know, original, eh?
Spice/Guinea pig-Cinnamon's daughter... The names just seemed to go together nicely.
Swirly Butt/Guinea pig-Lol!! My little sister named him. He had a black dot on his backside and when he was born and his fur was still wet, it looked like it swirled.
Buba/Guinea pig-We gave him away to my cousin (and he came back after a couple months) and my cousin liked big guinea pigs and thought his was going to be huge so there came the name. Funny thing is, Buba was the runt of the litter and was half the size of his brother... He was TINY!
Twitch/Guinea pig-When he was born, you'd touch him and he would jump around twitching. It was odd, and entertaining, but it only lasted the first few hours of his life.
Rusty/Guinea pig-He was black and orange so I wanted a Halloween name for him. My mom suggested Rusty, but it didn't seem Halloweeny to me. I never came up with anything better.
Sonic/Guinea pig-My little sister named him. At the time, she was obbsessed with Sonic the Hedgehog.
Sophie/Guinea pig-We cheated on that one... My mom found a huge list of names on the internet and went with the one that stuck out to her. Her name started off as Precious, but my dad kept thinking about the creature off of the Lord of the Rings, so we changed it.
Patches/Guinea pig-He was tri-colored and the colors were almost in big squares.
Claire/Guinea pig-Just came to me. But it is one of my favorite names.
I think that's it... Whew!!
