And when did Petsmart start selling frozen mice? None of them near me do.

No, because I was like how often do you feed YOUR snake??? And she's like, "A Ball Python eats a small mouse once a month." I was like, "Uhh.. I feed my snake 1-2 times a week (actually, I don't have a feeding schedule. I feed randomly and at will. Because you know... There's no set schedule in the wild.. But then again.. There's also never a reliable source of food either. Eh, she's happy and not obese). She goes, "Thats WAAY to much!!" And then I saw a bunch of captive hatched (the sign said it all) ball pythons there (hence why I call them the 'enemy') and they were all so skinny...
They sell frozen mice at the one in Braintree, Ma. 10 bucks (yikes) gets you a deli cup stuffed with four mice, all wrapped in their individual baggies. These mice are brown. I hope Aphrodite (my snake if you don't know) eats these (she's used to white mice)!

PS... I have NOOO idea how I double posted. If a mod could please remove the post above this, it would be appreciated.

I wouldn't be at all surprised with that kind of husbandry advice coming out of that store. Our one snake Kyna, came to us at 18 months of age, basically the size of most 6 month old ball pythons. She'd been consistently underfed by her owners because they faithfully followed the stupid pet store advice. They didn't have a computer at home, had no access to this sort of forum and really believed the pet store wouldn't give them bad information. With a proper feeding routine Kyna nicely gained weight and length. :)

Exactly. Too many people think that pet stores would never hire someone who doesn't know everything about the animals, therefore they listen religiously to every idiotic thing they say. In truth, most of those stores just hire whoever says they know something about animals at all...and most of the time that 'knowledge' is a bunch of myths and hooey. I can't believe I so badly wanted to work at one of those places as a teen. When I got begged (practically) to work there cause I knew so much, I was thrilled...until I saw how it really is. I did my best, and continue to steer pet owners in the store down the right path whenever I go in to get supplies, but never again will I work at any big pet store again even if I have no other job. Everything about them, from 'care' and handling policies, to crappy treatment, is horrible.

Having said this, I really applaud those out there who truly know their stuff and continue to work in those places trying to give pet owners proper advice. Kudos to the few.

So this is confirmed, the Petco in Avon, MA takes their snakes to the vet.
