Did you check the tail vent for mites? I am in the long process of getting rid of mites myself, but both my ball pythons are looking much better now.

The vet told me to make sure to check their tail vents, around their eyes and nose areas, and in the area under their head just in from the chin area. You kind of have to part the scales and extra skin a bit there.

    Good luck!

You may want to consider that they could be ticks instead of mites or a mixture of both. Mites are usually so small it's hard to pick them off. They are usually smally than a poppy seed you see on top of bread. And they definately aren't the size of a scale - at least not ones that I've heard about.

I'd still order some Provent-a-Mite (PAM) and treat her cage. PAM works on ticks too.

The snake itself is a beauty though. Good luck and keep us updated.

    Re: Mites????
Those thorny things are known as spurs. I have never treated mites, but she seems stressed out. Maybe it's best to just let her relax, maybe soak her in water to ease up on the itchyness, and then treat the cage for PAM because I'm sure picking them off wouldn't do much but just annoy her more.

    Hi,

The spurs are perfectly natural - they are the remains of back legs.:)

Males use them as part of courtship behaviour so please don't try and remove those ok?:)

But remember to try and get a stool sample to a vet at some future point to check for parasites as well. I realise this might mean waiting till she eats for you but just try not to forget.
