I know folks who have lost literally tens of thousands of dollars buying up this morph or that because others suggested it and it looked "cool" at the moment....then they wanted to go a different direction and their racks were full...or they had fallen into that debt hole I mentioned in another thread....either way, they're selling off snakes for a fraction of what they paid for them....etc etc...

I realize you're not talking about that sort of scale...but whether you're spending $10,000, $500, or $50....these are living, breathing animals who deserve your whole hearted ownership. Don't buy based on what others say is best. Figure out what you're most passionate about and are sure you want to stick with for the long haul. And if that particular animal costs more than the $500 you've allotted for yourself, then don't buy one now....wait and save your money.

Ok....I'll step off the :soapbx: now and leave it under the table in case anyone else wants to use it. :P

This is some of the best advice I have seen.
Judy, you echo my thoughts exactly. It still perplexes me that people are always seeking the approval of others but yet the others are not involved in the caring and cleaning of the animal.

As much as I agree, I also disagree. Some...actually most people want approval for something...for instance. You get a mowhawk and show your friends because...you want to know if it is cool from others perspective. You buy some nice shoe because??? You want to show it off and maybe have someone say something. You buy a lamborghini because?? see my point. Approval is what tons want esp. when they are about to invest some money or time in something.

I personally dont see a big deal in the question just answer IMO.

IMHO, you darn well better love a mowhawk, because if your friends hate it, you're still stuck with it until your hair grows back, or until you just cut the mowhawk off. Just sayin.......:P

I will completely agree with you that just "answering the question" in this case is certainly no big deal. However, I personally will not choose to do so, for the reasons I stated above. I'd rather give someone that to think about instead. Whether or not they listen to me is entirely up to them.

I have to disagree about the approval issue, though. I mean, I totally understand what you're saying and know that we all seek approval to some degree or another with the choices we make about our appearances or whatnot....but....these are living, breathing creatures we're talking about here....and one's commitment to them cannot be based on what others think about them. That's just too fleeting. And one of the things that makes me saddest about this hobby of ours, is how fleeting so many people's commitment is to the animals they bring into their home to care for. It IS a big deal...in my book. ;)

And I appreciate your opinion Kevin very much :)
