Re: humidity is owning me
Hahaha! I'm a surgeon with a soldering iron. I use a butane one. And not to brag but yeah those little holes are superb.
I build lowrider trucks in my spare time aside from being a carpenter.
Re: humidity is owning me
Yeah!!!! Humidity dropped 5%! Haha
Still not enough. I'm still cruising at about 70%.
More holes? Maybe some over the warm side too?
Currently they're only over the cool side.
My enclosure is starting to look like Swiss cheese. Hahaha. It don't have to be pretty. I just want it functional.
I'm still a firm believer in tubs over glass. Having only recently switched over. So I'm not giving up.
Re: humidity is owning me
Hmm lees summit missouri weather report says relative humidity in my area is 67%.
Maybe that's a factor.
Anybody notice an increase in humidity in your enclosure in conjunction with your area?
Re: humidity is owning me
yea after it rains the humidity usually goes up. you can try a dehumidifier in the room, that might bring things down a bit.
also you might want to check your hydrometer, it might be broken or off some how. if it is an acurite, pop the battery out for about 30 sec and then put it back in. that'll reset it, might help might not, but it's worth a shot.
Re: humidity is owning me
Yeah I have 2 of the accurites. Ill try pullin the batteries when I get home from work.
If it doesn't change ill take it back and get a new one from wally world.
I don't have the box but man wal mart will take anything back. Haha
I did get a few drops of water on it a week or so ago. Maybe that's what's doing it. Maybe it messed something up.
Re: humidity is owning me
try to poke some holes on the warm side so the air can circulate. not a lot though. Id say, poke 3 holes and come check every 10mins or so..
Re: humidity is owning me
If there's enough sweating in the tub, or piddle under the paper, so that the acurite gets wet, then you'll need a few hours for the hygrometer to dry out enough to give you an ACCURATE reading.
You should be making holes evenly throughout the tub, that will probably help. Then wait about an hour for it to stabilize. Ambient humidity makes a difference too, unless your snake tub is in a vacuum, which it isn't.
:)
Re: humidity is owning me
If your tub has become swiss cheese and it's still too high, you can always try hanging a small flannel or canvas bag (something that will allow the rice to 'breath') with some long grain white rice in from the top of the enclosure. Rice will absorb a lot of moisture, and it's fairly cheap.
It will not make an instant difference, and could take a bit to notice a huge difference but it has worked for me in the past. If you notice that the rice is absorbing too much of the humidity you can simply dump out some of the rice till you find the ideal amount, not enough and you can add some more!
And it's also a simple and cheap solution which can be modified on a need basis... I get VERY humid summers and fairly dry winters, so it's only really necessary for me for a few months of the year...
Re: humidity is owning me
Its actually doing a lot better. Its down from about 75% to about 65%.
I'm gonna feed her here in a few minutes. I'm gonna pop a few more holes in the lid. 6 more holes and I think ill be set.

I guess the ambient temps weren't affected by the holes in the lid? Just wondering out of curiousities sake.
