The "Lock"???
LOL... Its actually a quick clip keychain. I threw it on the "lock" hole in the sliding lid just to add one step to opening the cage.. My young nephew visits often and is quite mischievious (spelling). I'm fairly sure the clips will keep the snake in, but hopefully one more gismo will keep the nephew out.

Also:
I'm planning on waiting another week to feed my BP, as he has refused another mouse. I was planning this time on making a quick "feed box" so i can feed him away from his tank, in a smaller box. This was recommended by a few people to avoid the snake associating things coming into his home as food. Also, as the snake is small, the mouse may be easier to find.
Good idea?

Re: BP Setup Check: Tell me what you think
Well, Balls are ambush predators and feel most secure hunting from the safety of their hide. While feeding in a separate container might be a good idea for some snakes, it's a myth that Balls (or their owners) benefit from feeding in a separate container. In fact, for a snake that can be very sensitive to their environment, it's better to feed them in their own secure cage.
There are other tricks you can try to get him to eat such as the crumpled newspaper trick and also "scenting" the room or cage with used mouse bedding about a half hour before attempting to feed. Also, feed about an hour after dark. Your best results will be with a live rodent such as a mouse hopper or a rat pup that you can leave in the cage overnight with worrying about it harming your snake.
If your snake doesn't eat just leave him alone and try the next week, but don't handle your snake until he starts to eat for you.

[QUOTE =CntrlF8 log hide (not a favorite of BP's usually) QUOTE]
just reading though, and there aint any advice i can give you but directed at cntrlf8, i have the same log hide, and it seems to be my ball's fav place to sleep during the day :O
maybe mine is a bit queer :D
Re: BP Setup Check: Tell me what you think
I don't know, I had a log hide to start with too and my ball used it. I ordered two new exo terra rock hides to use instead but they are too big, so I'm saving them for later. I used my dremmel to make a nice rounded hole in two coffee cups which are a perfect snug hide for my ball. Even with those, he still goes to his log hide. I dunno why, I rearranged it so the log is on the cold side and he still uses it. So, he has three hides to choose from now, I'm just gonna let him keep all three
