Re: Pied to Pied
NO NO NO it was said that they would breed but the baby's would come out goofed up. (deformed) Not that they just wouldn't breed. If you bred two pieds together there is supposedly some genetic defect that the babys will be deformed. Thats all. I don't think it's true but a friend of mine (Adam Howell) if you must know bred two pieds and got 5 deformed baby's. I have never heard of this but there was a rumor spoken to him about you can't breed them together because of genetics? I thought he was full of crap but I thought I would ask everyone else instead I get a bunch of answers I didn't want to hear .. I guess I didn't represent the question as I meant it.

Re: Pied to Pied
Perhaps you had it mixed up between snakes and horses? Because breeding two high-white horses together means the resulting foal has a higher chance of developing a disease related to the gene, which is fatal. It sounds like maybe someone got that mixed up...?
I don't know the whole genetics behind the horse thing, but I have a friend who does and she mentioned this a few times. What was asked sounded similar, so I figured I'd make the comment. Not trying to start an argument or rile anybody up or anything.
However, I seriously doubt it applies to BPs.

Re: Pied to Pied
Daniel A,
Does you friend know the background lines of the two pieds he bred together? Were they related together... Like brother/sister, mother/son, cousins, etc? I know that inbreeding (any kind of animal or snake for that fact) you run a high possibility of getting deformed offspring. I can guarantee that breeding a non related pied to another non related pied can be done and is done. Any animal that is bred can produce deformed, premature offspring. It's just one of those risk you run in the breeding world.
Also, thank you Tim. :)

Re: Pied to Pied
Something I forgot to add to my last post. I know if you have a heat spike or drop while the eggs are in the incubator, that too has been known to form deformities in the babies.

I didn't mean problem like something that needs to be fixed. Piebald is just the result of the reduction of all pigments on parts of the skin. I was just saying bluntly that the skin pigments got messed up. I didnt mean it was bad.

They were they were daughter and father. Thats what I thought might have done it.

It's far more likely that the eggs had problems due to something happening during the incubation.

Exactly..
father/daughter breeding is not an uncommon practice in the reptile world, especially when trying to prove out a morph.
