If you like that type of show try watching survivorman. He doesnt have the luxury of having camera men, so I think it is better anyway. They just drop him off in the middle of no where by himself with some camera gear and give him a week to find civilization. When he kills an animal he always makes a speech about how he doesnt like to take an animals life but in a situation like this you might need to...

I understand the need to eat obviously, but survivorman just seems to be a lot more respectful about it. He also kills them more humanely then man vs wild...

I think the last thing i would be worrying about when stranded in some of the most inhospitable and unforgiving places in the world is how humanely i can kill an animal which is ultimately only a food item at that time. It's more a case of, find prey kill by whatever means necessary and get it down your neck.

I haven't seen survivorman but i don't understand why he has to make a speech about how to humanely kill an animal and the reasons why he's doing it. When faced with life or death situations your brain converts back to its most primitive form and thats basic survival skills. The last thing you want to start doing is trying to reason with yourself for killing some animal that is basically going to help you survive a little bit longer

i agree with you Jo if you out there and need something to eat you will anything you can find and your not going to worry about the way you kill it you just want to eat and live.

I sure know I'd be a lot more concerned with getting needed protein and calories (though having to eat slugs...I'd probably expire first LOL).

To be both fair and clear though, I do believe when it comes to things like sport hunting than one must be above and beyond everything, humane and respectful of the natural world in how one kills. This, however, isn't survival hunting. I've lived in some pretty remote places...in the far north of Ontario where the roads end and in the Canadian Yukon. Had I ever been lost in those places, sorry but I'd have done whatever it took to get back out in one piece and worried about my moral character at a later date. :)

Do you see the everglades episode? He caught a gator, and said: These are protected....too bad, because he sure looks tasty. I lmao'd

I don't really like watching him eat that kind of stuff...but I can kinda understand. I did see one episode (I don't know which one...I started in the middle of it) where he found a rattle snake and was going to catch it and eat it. But after he followed it and looked at it, he told what kind of rattlesnake it was, and said that it was protected. He did the same kinda thing... "He would be good food, but I guess I'll go hungery tonight" Of course, when you look at the killing of the animals in a life or death situation, even if the animal is protected, it's going to get eaten if that's all that's around. I guess with him being on TV, he can't just kill protected species for the show. It's a good show, but I don't watch it very often b/c I'm not real comfortable watching him killing those animals.

    I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!

Everytime it comes on I watch it!

I have learned alot from it in case I am ever dropped off in the middle of a desert, or marshlands or well...anywhere!

However, I would prolly die of hunger cause I can not see myself eating any of the things he has ate!

bugs, worms, snakes...don't seem like they would be very tastey!

I totally agree. I havent seen any of the episodes from season #2 yet, but I loved season 1. In season 1 in the deserted island episode, he saw a green sea turtle and mentioned that he would only kill it if he truly was starving since the species is endangered. He never kills endangered species on the show.

I love Man vs. Wild, I watched a few episodes of survivorman and could never get into it, it could be because the host is for sure hotter on Man vs. Wild :X I just never liked the guy on survivorman for some reason :(
Caught an episode of Man vs. Wild a while back and have been hooked ever since...

Ive talked to quite a few people on hiking/backpacking forums and almost everyone says the stuff he does on Man vs Wild will actually kill you if you try this if your actually lost. Wish they would bring Survivorman back.:)

How is the host still alive? I've yet to see him do anything that would cause death if done correctly.
