Most of the Petsmarts around me sell only females. There's one in downtown Atlanta that I stopped at that sells only males. Do a search on their site for locations within a 10 or 20 mile radius of you and call around, I bet there are some that sell the females!

Ummmm Ugly Betty from the tv show LOL. Actually she's sort of cute in a goofy eared, oddly marked face sorta way Robin. :D

Awwwww....she's adorable!! The name Ruby popped into my head as soon as I saw her. But "Taterface" made me laugh....and Kara's suggestion is quite fitting as well. :P

She's such a pretty girl! I sure wouldn't breed her though, Petsmart has a good reputation for carrying megacolon in their lines. At least you have a hooded male, so hopefully he's not carrying anything.

Good luck with her! Name her Maizy! :)

I know, I know.. I'm a broken record.

But you don't know how significant that gene is until you get a litter full of suffering babies that you have to euthanize. And then you also have to cull that whole line, since you don't know which rat is carrying is. Not fun...

Maisy is a cute name as well, but Karl has named her - that later.


Thanks for the warning, Becky - I had thought of that. The good thing is, with Caesar, he's never thrown a mega-colon baby, so I would think it's safe to say that he probably doesn't carry the gene (unless it's recessive and none of my established colony carry the gene).

I am going to probably breed her to Caesar and if I see any presentation of megacolon, she will be pulled and be a companion to my resting moms. ALL I ever have are black hoodeds and black berkies from Caesar, not a lick of white on any of his offspring's faces.

I do know this is a passionate topic for you Becky, but I promise to be responsible! :)

Now, for her name - Wisdom. He sat there and stared thoughtfully at her for some time while rubbing his chin (he takes the task of naming VERY seriously! LOL), then looked and announced in a very dignified voice "Wisdom. Her name is Wisdom".

Kind of ironic, wouldn't you say? For a Dumbo rat (which I don't even think it sunk in when I told her what kind of rat she is). I have to say though, I think he did a pretty good job naming her, I like the ring of it!

Haha, Wisdom! Very cute. Dumbos always have that air of "smarts" about them, but the majority of mine are missing a few crayons, LOL.

Tell her to be a good rattie momma!
