    I will speculate that the mass that was left in the egg is unabsorbed yoke. Normally if the conditions exist for one of the hatchlings to develop, the other will develop too.

    I had one of those(best looker in the clutch too) and now she's eating everytime, but only mice, won't touch rat pink/pups. But it's a good feeling when they finally gobble down that first meal(on their own, had to assist feed first one after 8 +weeks). Congrats and great color!
