    Hello!!
    The exploring is him making sure that his new habitat is safe. I think everyone would agree that you should leave him alone for 1 to 2 weeks. And don't be alarmed if he doesn't feed in a week. Just leave him alone for a week, he'll get settled in, and you'll both be happy.
    As for handling, I have some snakes that act like they enjoy it alot, but most of mine just tolerate it, and a one wants nothing to do with me. :) So in your case, i think what you need to focus on the most is husbandry, which ppl can answer all your questions, and keepin the little guy happy and stress free for a few weeks. Oh and by the way, CONGRATULATIONS!

    Incidentally I will be leaving for a good part of the coming week; I was worried about leaving him alone for so long (can you tell that I've kept lizards that eat daily till now?) but actually I think it'll be good to let him settle in by himself for a few days and get cozy. I won't be able to buy him a new hide box till then. Maybe I'll set up a small shoebox or something in there.

    Oh and happy 4th fellow Americans! :salute:

    what are your temps on your hot and cool side? when you go away for a couple days make sure you leave lots of fresh water for him
