I use mainly newspaper in tubs (aspen for some.) Do you completely bleach out the tubs after a BM and use new newspaper? I do, and I never notice any odors.
I would be leary of using anything else. I know that people use something called nolvasan and that is supposed to be good too. But bleach is cheap, readily available and works great for me, so there is no contest. You do have to rinse it out super-well, but I do that.
I use the scrubbie sponges to clean the tubs out.. I go through a lot of them, as the bleach eats away at them :)

I would also say that just cleaning the cage and all it's contents on a weekly basis would also discount that theory.

I appreciate your posting what you were told in the past :)
Whoever told you that might be selling it but I am not buying it. :)

I don't know anything specifically about the Healthy Habitat and it isn't the BM and Urine smell that I am talking about but more the musky smell. It is the same concept as to why you bath your female snakes after they lay...so you remove the smell and they will start to eat again, this positive could be a negative the other way around???. I think the theory of smell is sound but maybe not developed enough. :)

Anyway I tried searching for the old thread but couldn't find it (you can only look back 500 postings on yourself and this was early last year sometime)

    Thanks for clarifying.
