One more thing... It really makes me appreciate all of the great help and advice that so many BP.netters give when someone tackles a project like this.

I recently saw this ad for a rodent rack on Craigslist, and I wonder how many people might buy into it or try to build a similar one. Notice the nylon straps (rat chewies) holding the wire fabric on? I cringed when I saw all of that red dog food and the description claiming that each tub can hold 30 breeding rats. :O

    200 bucks??
I built my own breeder rack and I only keep 3 to 1 in each tub. I did mine for less then 100 bucks, was alot more enjoyable too because I did it myself. Plus I have the abilty to add more tubs to mine, now granted I only put 4 tubs in for now but theres room to add the 2 other tubs later. Which I will be doing most likely this weekend so I can start seperating the weanlings. Man my snakes are gonna be happy. :D

Yep, there's just something satisfying about building your own. I'd love to see pics of your rack after you're done.

BTW, I think I misread the ad. I think he meant 30 breeders for the entire rack, but that is still 5 females per tub which seems like a lot when they start having litters.

When I did mine i did it with two rows of tubs, as I felt because of the hight that it would be too likely to tip over. That made each level 41"wx28"d. Mine is out in the garage, but I could still get it thru a doorway if I had to. And it seems a lot more stable. I usally keep two females in each and move the males in and out. Now, for the watering system.....

Thanks Mark! But why would I want the connector on the other side?
Evan already covered it, you might want to remove the bucket sometime without having to drain it first. But actually, with the drains you put on the bottom it might work out better and easier to just drain it everytime you needed to remove/clean out the bucket. It would keep the lines cleaner too to periodically drain the whole system. I like that idea, I'll probably add that to my next rack.
