pics of Ben to ask about girth, spine, etc.
I figured some pics would help. Ben was sooo patient during his photo shoot.

Here' we go. Looking for opinions on girth, and "fullness." You'll note is some of the photos that he does appear a bit triangular when his own weight is stressing on him. When he's on the couch, he doesn't look triangular but I thought I'd post these and make sure/get opinions on if he looks healthy and has enough weight on him.
    Thanks!

Oh, I'm so glad you say he looks normal and healthy ... and "lovely". I'll tell him you said so ; )

You know, Ben really is lovely. A very gentle soul this little guy has. He's getting used to me rather quickly. A lot quicker than my corn did/is but then he's older and has been exposed to a lot more people. By moving my hand from my lap to my head slowly, I'm getting him used to hands moving in front of him as it seems to scare him. I'd like the kids and people I know not to be scared by his swift recoil when they meet him and go to pet him.

Tonight as I watched TV he sat still, stretched out, on my lap for about 15 minutes, under a blanket. (His little head peeking out looking up at me. Darling!) He seems to not mind being held and the balling up has all but stopped aside from when I first take him out of his hide. I probably shouldn't be tearing him from his hide but I only do it once a day and he gets some excercise. He really would just stay in there all day and night I think.

I can tell when he's had enough. He gets fidgety. That's when I put him back.

Okay, I could go on for hours about him. I'll stop there.
    Thanks guys!

Catie: Those are great tips. Thanks! I do have a digital probe thermometer as I just don't trust the others.

I'm going to the REPTILE EXPO on June 24th in MISSISSAUGA (woo-woo) so they may have some "pro" gear there. I'm goign to research your suggested brand names online. Thank you.

You said you used to use glass tanks. What are you using now? any links would be appreciated. I'm not married to the idea of keeping Ben in a glass tank and could put my pending Bearded Dragon in it.

Also, my whole "backbone/spine" issue was answered with your avatar. That's what Ben's back looks like too. So unless your showing us an underfed albino, I just can calm down already!! I note the multiple fold of skin on yours as well. Again, calming....... breathing....... Got a website where I can go and look at more picks of your snakes?

Thank you so much guys, I'm feeling better and Ben is warmer!

They may have some thermostats for sale at the show, but if not, just ask some of the breeders what they recomend.

I used to use tanks, but have built a melamine rack system to accomidate my growing collection. I do recommend using a tub though, just because of the ease of keeping the humidity and temps constant. I've found it much more difficult to deal with drafts, etc. with glass. The temps inside seem to fluctuate more with the changing seasons and stuff as well. I see the sticky has been posted.

Your snake looks like its in good shape. Really pretty!

I just got that little girl in my avatar from Dan Wolfe. She is quite the eater and growing fat. Balls are a lot "thicker" than colubrids and i can understand where the alarm came from. Nothing to worry about. They're supposed to be fatter in the middle and taper off on the ends.

I dont' have a website yet, but i'll post some pics for you. :D

yes your hot sides should be AT LEAST 90. 92-94 is ideal for a ball and 82-84 is ideal for a cool side for a ball. just try that and see how that works.
