Ok So last night i added the tinfoil (no ductape, i just used typical clear houstape to tape it down) woke up this morning and humidity was at 59%. It actually stayed steady. After being gone from 8am-930pm, my humidity had only dropped to 50%. Definately a big difference. I did still have the towel over the tank so that added an extra layer that also covered the non tinfoiled area. Definately worked a lot better than just usingb binders, and what not.

I'd like to have one for when I go on vacation and can't get anyone to watch my ball for me.

Swap to a tub for a week

I've set up 3 tanks using the info in the "sticky".

My BP has a 75W night time bulb over his water bowl to evaporate it. Humidity is in the 50's, never mist, except when shedding, even then only twice a day to keep it 70-80%.

My BRB is in a 29G (tall 20 long) with 2 UTH's; 1 on the warm side and another under the water bowl. Humidity is in the 70's all the time without misting.

My only concern is, is there enough ventilation when you cover 80-90% of the top?? I guess the heat rising has to be drawing in fresh air, but does that fresh air get down to the snake??

Feeding day is supposed to be Monday and he did not eat. Hopefully the lack of the drastic humidity fluctuations will be the difference next week. I am still keeping the towel over his tank to give him his privacy. One question about that method though, Does the 24 hr darkness mess with him? I figure since they like dark places anyways that he would prefer life that way, but hey I dont have much experience with snakes. Also would you suggest maybe trying the brown bag trick?

I'm going to try that soon. I've got 3 out of 4 snakes on hunger strikes (5-6 weeks). Only the BP is eat good.

How long should they be left in the bag???

A trick that I used once -- take a small aquarium air pump (10gal) and put a stone on the end. Stick the stone in the water bowl (or cup of water) and let it purr away. The water will bubble out onto the aspen creating a sorta wet environment around the cup and it will dramatically change the humidity of your setup. You will have to make sure that there is enough water in the cup/bowl to last the time that you are away.

I do use one. keeps my 30 gallon tank about 58 to 60 percent always. I do use a 1/2 gallon jar instead of the Gatoraid bottle shown in the instructions.

i use a gatoraide bottle and it works good for my 20 gal. i fill it maybe once every 2-3 weeks, usually when cleaning time.

wouldn't the bubbles scare a shy lil ball python away from his source of water. i don't know if that is such a good idea.

i keep the air pump, which makes alot of vibrations, on the carpeted floor next to the stand my tank is on. this way there are no vibrations or noises to affect my ball.
