    If I put my hand in, he gets really stressed and rattles his tail, S-coils, etc. If I use the grapevine, he just sits there. I figure that it works for me.

    I have a bull snake that does that. He's completly convinced he's a rattle snake. He puts on a great show in *his* domain but as soon as he's out it's "ahhh, Mom, hide me up your sleeve, tuck me under your shirt, something PLEASE!!!!" for the first minute or two then he's happy to chill in my hair for the rest of the day.

    Yes; he does the tail-rattle against the tank wall. it is amazing how they 'know" to do this and imitate a rattler.. just astounds me!
