    the way i see it if your are not incubating eggs, there really isn't a need for a propotional thermostat. on the JC and the Ranco you can set the temp to say 93 and a 1 degree difference, so when it drops to 92 it'll kick back on. so you're temps will stay between 93.-92 easily.

    until you get one of those picky snakes who gets freaked by that subtle changes. One of my 06 hatchlings rarely ate when I had it on a JC thermostat and now eats every chance with the rack on a Helix. It could be something else, but it just happened he started eating consistently when using the helix.
