I don't know depending on what Meme had planned..And she said she was leading the way... I like a woman who will take control every now and then.

I would remove the hides. Unless the snake is inside one with its head poking out.. then you can just drop the prey item in, and the snake will usually sneak out stealthily and grab it.
I don't know though, about even giving advice on this sort of thing. you end up getting a feel for the snake and you will intuitively know if you should leave the hide in, or even bother to feed at all.. by the snake's initial reaction to the rat/mouse in the cage.

I feed in a seperate enclosure and then carefully move my snake back to his cage once he is done eating. I was told to do it this way and I imagine it all works quite well because the pet store probably had been doing it that way since he had arrived. I live in Austin, TX and both of the hardcore herper stores near my house feed that way.

btw....as for the hides, I leave them in the tank and I leave my snakes in their enclosures.
