I think it's because it keeps working on the substrate as the snake moves along and the mites hop off - so you would add fresh newspaper then treat?

Never used the stuff mind you so I'm just going with what others have said in the past.

I'd wait for other responses from people who have actually used the product on that. My gut instinct says to use the aspen because it would be in the cage for a longer period owing to spot cleaning rather than the whole replacement that you get with newspaper - but my gut is kinda dumb on occassion.:P

Hopefully some of the more experienced will answer your question soon.:)

Leave them on paper....it is easier to verify that the mites are gone. I would plan to keep them on paper for the next couple of months. Mite eggs take some time to hatch so you want to make sure they were killed as well.

With the Aspen the mits might hide and start reproducing again.

I can take pics of the can if you like, but it states clearly on there not to spray a bare tank, but its def on there. Use how you like, but this stuff isnt to be messed around with, your tank, your snakes, your call.

As for how often you should treat, on the can PAM says to treat a tank once a month for 3 months to completely kill off the mites. Good luck.

yeah reading. but yeah, i agree, it says all this on the can, and it definitely says the substrate bit because PAM works by evaporating or something so it would do nothing to spray a substrateless tank where it will be gone in a few hours. and as for the breathing in as much pam as possible I wouldn't do it. I sprayed it in my small studio apartment and i was dizzy, and light headed for the rest of the day.

when i used it i only had to use it once. Also i switched to paper towels until i was absolutley sure the mites were gone(in a quarantine tub on a flexwatt), then i put the snake in the rack with the rest of his buddies. Also i guess under the circumstances you have them in one tank, but as soon as you can you should seperate them. You know how thta goes....

actually that isn't necc. - the Provent-A-Mite (not Pam cooking spray) works so well it doesn't matter if you have them on Aspen or newspaper/papertowels etc.

So, personally, I'd put them back on whatever substrate you normally use... and do a respraying just on the substrate... let it dry an hour and put the snakes back in.

Since you are choosing to house them together temporarily... be sure to have lots of hides!!!

My comment was based on the fact that he already has them on paper due to someone elses recommendation. You are correct it doesn't matter...but it is still easier to see the mites on paper vs. buried in a substrate...especially since he has more than one snake in the same tank (and more hides = more places for them to hide) :D
