I'm a creature of habit, very resistant to change - tell me why Firefox is so much better than IE, and if I don't like Firefox, how hard will it be to change back? What happens to all my bookmarks?

I want to be brave, but have to be convinced! :D

I was able to import all my bookmarks to Firefox. So far I've had no problems and it actually seems faster for some reason in comparison to IE. You can easily switch which one is your default.

Nothing happens to your IE, firefox is just an additional browser. I use both. Sometimes at the same time.
