What a little beauty!
Some Boa babies are feistier then others. Remember they are just babies and they are insecure and they are only doing what they know to do and that is to defend themselves. Remember you are a big scary monster to the little thing. Give him time to settle in, offer it a meal in a few days, then after 48 hours of digestion then take it out for a little handling session for 5-10 minutes, maybe less if it acts stressed.

Re: My New Boa
That setup looks fine for that boa, enough room for a couple more months too. I wouldn't worry much about a glove personally, what I did when my 1st male was a nippy baby was leave the tub open and wait for him to come out, once he came out to explore, I would lift him from his belly and he was fine. A few times a week is all you should need and he will be a lap boa just like all of mine are now. Keep the temps in the low 90's or high 80's on the hot side and you should be fine. I would go with every 7 days on dead rats until he is about a year old, then go to a day after each poo to feed, if he is a male that is. Males have no need to pass up the 6' mark if fed right. You don't want a fat boa. Check your PM btw

Re: My New Boa
I like the letting him come out idea... I know he'd have no problem with it -- I popped him in a tall tub yesterday while I was setting this one up and he escaped within five minutes. I thought no way, you're not that tall! They seem so much more curious about everything than balls are.
How well do they do transitioning from live to f/t? The store has been feeding the babies live hoppers.
Thanks for the help guys.

2 of my 3 boas were "strictly" live mice feeders and would take nothing else, the day they arrived BOTH took f/t rats. In other words, not hard in almost all cases. For a shy one, I might try wiggling the dead rat to get their attention and if that doesn't work, leave it in there over night. All 3 of my boas take the rats almost everytime with no strike or constricting, just open and start swallowing. Far less stressed as balls are, you can take them out 4-5 times a week and they will still eat.

Re: My New Boa
CA for sure. Take yer finger and slowly roll it back from his/her butt to the tail...half way you'll feel two quick bumps if it's a boy and nothing if it's a girl. Don't feed out of the tub, IMO it causes too much stress when being transitioned back after eating...waste of time too. They'll sense the rats/mice and go into "feed mode" then. They won't need the transition to a seperate container for that. Good luck and keep us posted!

He's a cutie...personally, I'd go for a Central American name...Pablito, Carlos...that kind of thing.

Re: My New Boa
WELL Mr Man still seems to be in a mad mood. I lifted him out to change his newspaper today. He was in the "S" position so I picked him up with a towel and then with my hand. He was ok for a second but seemed wary, I put him on the bed and he struck at me twice. I was like WOW, so I put the towel over him again, which he struck at, then placed him back in the tub, where he struck at the towel again. :( I know I have nothing to fear with this little guy but I just about flinch out of my pants every time. I hope this isn't indicative of what he will always be like.
