Check out kraft paper too, just for a little variety. I use both plain & indented kraft paper (mostly for bloods, but for some ball pythons too) and love it love it love it!

Kara, where do you get kraft paper? Is that a brand name?

I get mine here - it's the best value I've found thus far in terms of overall cost (w/shipping factored in). They carry rolls & sheets...I buy mine in pre-cut sheets, 24" x 36" both in the 30lb smooth & 25lb indented. Good stuff!

I use regular newspaper (nothing with color ads or the "plasticky" department-store papers.) I avoid sheets with alrge inky advertisement squares too; that does tend to blacken the tub more. Our local Penny Saver is delivered free, and I can always pick up a few more copies at the store for free; it is the perfect size for my 41-quart tubs. I use the water dish in the center of each tub to weigh the paper down and prevent the snakes from burrowing under it.. and I don't see it leave marks on my snakes. It does leave a little black residue on the tub bottoms if someone spills their water, but nothing the diluted bleach and scrubbie sponge can't take away.. and it's free! I sure wish that I could find free bedding for my horses and rats! (yeah, right..)

Used aspen once never again will I buy hamster bedding(aspen).. I dont know why alot of people use aspen. aspen can be dangerous if swallowed with food.. I use to hate it when I throw in a freshly killed rat and my bp will sometimes miss and have a mouth full of aspen.

Thanks Kara! I have had no problems with aspen, . . .have used it for quite a while but it is very expensive when your collection gets bigger.
