Very simple solution folks and one that won't put our already overworked Mods and Admins to any further technical fiddling about. If you have that strong an opinion good or bad about somebody's post and you feel it warrants a good or bad rep point...put in your comment and your name. Pretty easy really. If you feel they are the sort of person to retaliate and they do...report it to the Admin or Mod team.

Can't be any more simple than that :)

I'll leave my name, no shame here. Haven't given out many negs though, just a few.

I think it would be great if we could see the names of people who leave reps. I think the system is already being abused as it is, and ANY neg rep with no name left is abusive. Taking it to the admin makes one come off as a whiner.
If people start leaving retaliating reps, so what? Don't leave a neg rep if you aren't willing to handle the fallout. And why can't the admin deal with the retaliation reps instead of the abusive no-name reps? I don't see how it creates a hardship, I see it creating a system where people can be held accountable. I like that idea!

I am not clear on why you would ever give a negative rep...I mean what is the real purpose?

I get a postive you...it is more a "I noticed you put some effort into what you told me so thanks"

But what would be the reason for the negative one...
if the post is offensive you report it to a mod
If you disagree with a post state your case...but everyone is entitled to their opinion
Blatently providing bad info...report it to a mod

Is there another reason for a negative rep?

In my experience, neg reps are from people too chicken to post their disagreement with my opinion out in the open, so I can't actually respond to them. It's truly ridiculous.
I'm all about standing by what I say.

I agree with...I think we should just do away with negative reps, if you have a disagreement with something said then express it openly.

    Re: reps
I must admit, the neg rep thing confuses me... I've never used it and the only time I would leave one for somebody is if they were seriously offensive or rude. But this is something the mods would typically handle... So I can imagine the neg rep points are used mainly when someone has a strong differing opinion, and you want to 'get back at them' for having it, IMO.

I have given both negative and positive and I always sign my name, even on the negative, the only times I have given negatives are if someone is acting way out of line and not listening to advice given and smearing everyone else. I also gave the negative reps after I responded in that thread, so for me negative reps are not because I'm too scared to not be anonymous, mine will always be signed.

    Re: reps
I have given both negative and positive reps. I'm far from chicken about calling out a person in a thread but to save the drama I have been known to rep them. I leave my name and screen name on each and every one.
