oh and i forgot to add... since there are pure hogs in the wild... we know the lineage will have more pure stock. back when i believed there was no pure hogs left in the wild, i felt differently about keeping them pure.

and my hog... is a 'mutt' but he's beeeeeeeeeautiful!!! :wuv:

    Keep em pure!!

    Jglass,
I am excited for sure. How big is your male? Do you have any pics of him. I would like to see others from this lineage for sure.

When I saw Kara post on KS i had to jump on it. Not everyday you find pure snakes that have been raised from neonates by someone with as much clout as nerd has. Its so hard to trust breeders these day's. Its crazy what happens when you start to poke around and asking them questions about their " pure" stock.

The average herper has not idea what a pure hog and probably doesnt care.. .and that is why this can continue to go on.

I hate that others are selling washed out boas for the real deal... but its the nature of the beast.

Ashley, I am sorry that happened. But, he is still a great snake for sure.

There are very few hogg's left in the wild and the chances that they will be available to be collected again is not in the near future.
Theres a bit more info on Hoggs for those that aren't too familiar with em.

Actually, the Hog Island Boas on Cayos Cochinos have made an amazing recovery and are thriving again. I spoke through email with one of the researchers on the island. I will see if I can find the email.

that's awesome, but is it a large enough population to be sustainable? the biggest problem with small populations is the whole rarity unto death bit with all muddying the gene pool and destroying chances at surviving, key example.... the dodo

I heard that too! I think it's awesome, what they are doing to repopulate the island's natural inhabitants.

I honestly believe that it is now a buyer's market out there. The buyer's tell the breeder's what they want and how they want it. There is way too many choices out there to ever have to settle with second best. If you truly wanted a pure, proven hog bloodline BCI, you shouldn't have to settle for anything less. Those that do want those amazing sunsets, and sunset crosses also don't have to look far anymore and will get them. I stand by crossing being perfectly fine as long as it is ALL documented and proven with 100% accuracy. I, myself, am still tossing the idea up and around before I ever cross anything. I would be a hypocrit if I said I wasn't behind it, because I own three crosses now. I didn't produce them, but even worse than that (depending on the side you've chosen) I bought them. I own a 1/8 Suri, 1/4 Mex, and 5/8 Colombian Albino female, het albino female, and het albino male. They are probably the prettiest snakes I own. The Het male looks like a Mex, has the tail of the Suriname, and carries the albino gene! It's amazing, but to breed more of them will take some deep consideration.

Awesome post Jimi! I happen to love the pure Hogs and don't like most of the Hog crosses I have seen, I suppor the right of those that want to cross it to do it. I agree that honesty and accuracy is key. Best of luck with your future projects!
