:oops: I get differing info from everywhere... I also bought a UVB lamp at the suggestion of the vet... people here told me to find a new vet... the good news is that my humidity is set and stable so far, but I'll know to look into changing my substrate if that changes! Thanks!

yea you can maintain proper humidity with carpet its just some people find it harder and requiring more maintenance than a more absorbent substrate.

A vet that suggests UVB exposure for a nocturnal creature is a real boner and shouldn't get another penny from you for his 'services.'

There's so many different kinds of carpet that its hard to say that one "makes it harder to maintain humidity" than the other. The fact of the matter is that the difference is really negligible and depends much more on the type of heating and enclosure that you have. A glass tank with newspaper is going to be just as dry as a glass tank with carpet, and a plastic tub with newspaper is going to be just as humid as a plastic tub with carpet.
