Re: cards for your MOJAVES!!!
Im sort of on your boat too. I have a job, and have recently become interested in snakes with the help of my dad. Fortuanetly, I have been learning a lot on this forum  and with a part-time job im starting to get some money together to buy a couple of snakes myself.
If I were you - as has been said - post up some fliers about your neighbourhood and cut some gardens (lawns?) in the summer, not too far away, and in no time youll have enough money for some snakes.
I used to collect cards, and over here anyway, theres very little market for them now.
Best of luck though :)

Re: cards for your MOJAVES!!!
I collected cards from the age of 8-14...
Baseball, basketball, hockey, etc..
I will never forget....I bought 2 $55 packs of 7 cards where you are guarenteed an autograph, bat card, jersey card, etc... First pack I got a Bernie Williams bat card....Boy was I excited...Second pack I got a Ray Lewis jersey card...man oh man I was really excited...2 yrs later I was looking to sell a couple cards only to find out those 2 cards were only worth $15 each...
From the 6, 7 yrs of collecting cards I must have layed out AT LEAST $3,000 between my money, parents money, birthday money, etc... And I will more then likely NEVER get the money back that I put into it...
Though, I do have some VERY valuable cards...
Joe Montana autographed card
Ken Griffey Jr, Sean Casey, and Adam Dunn jersey card numbered 11/50
Patrick Roy jersey/autograph card
Derek Jeter rookie card
Alfonso Soriano autograph card numbered 262/500
I do have a ton more but those are what I can think of at the top of my head...I have over 3 dozen shoeboxes full of cards...not too mention all of the binders full of them....
But with all of the money I put into it, id rather hang onto them then get crap money for them...not worth it imo...
My most valuable collectable is a Magic Johnson signed basketball with a picture of him signing it with me in it....My best friends uncle is good friends with him and his uncle had a bunch of his neices and nephews to meet him...We got to play basketball with him, take pics, etc... Great time...
Sorry to ramble on....
I wish you luck man...And if ya cant sell the cards...do what other people have mentioned, post some flyers around the neighborhood and you'll more then likely get some phone calls....

Re: cards for your MOJAVES!!!
I've never collected cards, however have a son "Now 16", "whom went through the whole poke e mon , yu ghi oh, card collecting stage" - I spent Alot of money trying to make him happy as well with giving allowance for chores, in which he spent all on cards.
He quit the whole collecting cards thing about 4 years ago "Thankfully", but still has the collection sitting in a box somewhere - I know nothing of the value of any of these cards, however if I got back a nickel for each card, I'd be happy - I'm sure we dropped 1K at least in cards.
Look into some odd-jobs as a way of income till you become legal to work at your age and in your state - Summers right around the corner - My son just got his 1st job at 16 at taco bell - glamorous job/ No - but than again we all have had our 1st job ;-)
Good luck...
